Metropolitan Youth Ballet does not require dancers to purchase specific brands, styles, or color tones of dancewear other than those indicated below. Nor do we require dancewear to be purchased from a specific company, although we do recommend Kinney Dancewear in Noblesville and Shimmy Dancewear in Carmel for your local shopping. If you need assistance choosing shoe styles or tights colors, speak with your instructors.

Ladies: Black leotard, pink or skin tone tights, pink ballet shoes. Ladies will be required to purchase a tutu of their level color (Joy of Movement – Yellow, Creative Dance – Blue, Pre-Primary Ballet – Pink) from MYB (under $20.00). These tutus will remain at the studio and be worn as part of the “uniform” in class. Hair should be in a ballet bun/ponytail and “wisps” pulled off the face with hair pins, clips or a hairband. Bangs may be left down or pulled back.

Gentlemen: Black tights or black biker shorts, white T-shirt, white socks and white ballet shoes, OR black tights, white T-shirt, black ballet shoes. Gentlemen will be required to purchase a sash of their level color from MYB.

For Preschool Division dancers/families new to ballet attire, a “Fit Kit” is available at the studio courtesy of Kinney Dancewear. After sizing to ensure a good fit, this special offer by Kinney Dancewear will meet all of our dance attire requirements for one convenient price and the uniform will be delivered to MYB for pick up.

Ladies: Black leotard, pink or skin tone tights, pink ballet shoes (pink or skin tone pointe shoes at appropriate level), black or pink chiffon or simple knit ballet skirt (optional). Ladies may wear any leotard/skirt color, with pink or skin tone tights, on Fridays and Saturdays (unless otherwise notified). Hair should be in a ballet bun.

Gentlemen ages 7-12: Black tights or black biker shorts, white T- shirt, white socks and white ballet shoes OR black tights, white t-shirt, black ballet shoes.

Gentlemen ages 13 and above: Black tights, white t-shirt, white socks, and white ballet shoes OR black tights, white t-shirt, black ballet shoes. Dance belt is required.

Ladies:  Ballet uniform OR black leotard with black leggings or tights (no cut-offs or two pieces). Bike shorts are allowed during warm weather (no shorter than fingertip length with arms held straight down – no “booty” shorts). Beige or black jazz shoes for Jazz; bare feet, ballet slippers, dance socks, or foot thongs for Contemporary. Hair may be worn in a bun or neat ponytail, or hair may be worn down to varying degrees at the discretion of the instructor.

Gentlemen: Ballet uniform OR black or white t-shirt, black bike shorts or leggings. Beige or black jazz shoes for Jazz; bare feet, ballet slippers, dance socks, or foot thongs for Contemporary.

Choose an attire that fits your comfort level from the options listed above.

  1. Hair accessories should be kept to a minimum and made of soft material
  2. No jewelry allowed other than small stud earrings (no necklaces, bracelets, etc.)
  3. Nails should be kept short and trimmed
  4. Dance-specific warm up wear (leg warmers, warm up pants, socks, vests, sweaters) are allowed at instructor’s discretion for the beginning of ballet barre
  5. Extra clothing (hats, scarves, dressing gowns, hoodies, etc.) is to be removed before class begins.

All newly enrolled students will be expected to be following the dress code by the second full week of each semester.
