Continues Instruction and Be an Angel’ Program
The Ballet Theatre of Carmel Academy moved to a new location at 1329 West 96th Street in Indianapolis. The move was necessary following a transition affecting both BTCA and its sister school Performer’s Edge Dance Academy. “We couldn’t find a location with enough space for both of us,” said Jane Hachiya-Weiner, now co-Artistic Director of BTCA with her husband Frank Weiner.
The Ballet Theatre of Carmel Academy previously operated as part of Performer’s Edge for nine years. BTCA is now its own non-profit organization, but the schools will maintain close ties, including sharing instructors.
Ballet Theatre of Carmel Academy will continue its pre-professional ballet program and train students ages 3 to high school in ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. “Continuity is the most important thing and we had to move quickly,” said Hachiya-Weiner. “Our goal was to keep a floor beneath the dancers.”
Adequate space is important for both studios, particularly with BTCA’s “Be an Angel” Program which starts rehearsal October 19th. “The program is a fun way for 5-to-8-year old children to participate in a production of Tchaikovsky’s classical ballet ‘The Nutcracker,’” says Hachiya-Weiner.
The “Be an Angel” Program is only a two-month commitment with rehearsals each Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. It is not only a fun way for kids to try something new, it is great fun for the parents to see their child onstage in a major production. Additional details on “Be an Angel” and other programs, as well as a copy of the sign-up form, can be found at the school’s website BalletTheatreofCarmel.org.
